The Dark Knight didn't deserve an R. It's too violent for young kids, even those approaching 13, but that decision is up to their parents.

It would still be up to the parents with an R rating. I would say that it had "Disturbing Violence and Gore (not Al)." Those things usually get an R rating.

Pride and Prejudice--> B+

Solid rendition, but not my favorite Jane Austen book. I Keira Knightley.

Wrong answer. You expect more from a girl movie, hence the lower grade.

Now go buy yourself some new perfume.

No seven words. No sex. No nudity. No smoking.
Give me some examples of the disturbing violence and gore that makes it an R-rated movie. I'm at a loss; I can't think of any.

The actual wording from the MPAA is "intense or persistent violence." That seems to describe just about every scene the Joker was in. The scene where he was getting beat up in the interview room would be enough by itself. The opening sequence was also pretty intense.

And if Harvey Dent's face doesn't do it for you in the gore category, I can't help you.

Interesting article about the Dark Knight and its PG-13 rating.

And another analysis for parents by Kids in Mind.

"Yet it bears only a PG-13 rating, the same sticker slapped on "Mamma Mia!," whose most offensive scenes are arguably those of Pierce Brosnan singing."

Mrs. Guinness and I saw it Saturday afternoon. She cried at the end.

I assumed it was rated R, so I'm surprised it's rated PG-13. Thinking hard about it, I don't think I'd want to let a 13 year old see it, but maybe a 15 year old. There's no PG-15 rating of course.

I think 13 year old boys likely very much enjoy it though.

It's no worse than what I've seen in the Indiana Jones trilogy, Poltergeist, or any other PG-13 rated movies. I think because of the movie's dark tone many are in uproar about the rating. Had it a lighter feel, not so much.

Yes, it is worse. This is realistic. Comparing this to a supernatural movie is a big stretch.

And Poltergeist was rated PG. There was no PG-13 when it was released. And it featured the parents smoking weed. Also should have been an R when you combine that with the people coming out of the caskets.

We went as a family, the wife and the two utes, aged 13 and 10, to see The Dark Knight. I must have missed the "bad" parts; howwever, I haven't noticed any ill effects.

Did I miss something?

I guess living with a psycho dad has its benefits.

It's a good thing you went as a family. You definitely wouldn't want to go as a tablecloth.

Saw the Dark Knight yesterday...

Matinee pricing and mostly empty theater - A+

Action scenes, special effects, over the top Hollywood-ness - A

Length - F- (come on, already)

Christian Bale as Batman's imitation of Vince McMahon when speaking - B (surprisingly believable)

Overall, a decent popcorn flick. I'm not big on the comic book movie genre per se and didn't think this was as good as the first Bale Batman flick, but wtf, it beat working on a Tuesday afternoon.

Saw a matinee double feature yesterday.

The Dark Knight gets an A. It was long, but it didn't seem so. Heath Ledger is pretty much as good as advertised. Off hand as far as creepy villains go, he's probably below Hannibal Lecter and John Malkovich in In the Line of Fire.

Stepbrothers gets a C+. I felt like seeing something funny so I watched that. It had its moments. The guy who played the dad in Six Feet Under was good.

Fresh gets an A. It's really one of the great pieces of pieces of filmmaking from the 90s. I watch it every time it comes on. Not quite a realistic plot, but that's OK.
