The Big Heat-Fritz Lang thriller from 1953. Very intense and violent (off-camera). An actress I wasn't familiar with, Gloria Grahame, steals the show, but Glenn Ford and Lee Marvin are both good. And Young.
Good film noir. A

Careful Taxman--> Lots of smoking.

Gloria Grahame is the bomb. I don't think I've ever sen her turn in a bad performance.

From Netflix:
Baby Mama- B- Now I love me some Tina and Amy but this film was like a SNL skit that is just a little bit too long.
World at War Part 1- A+ Excellent British doc about the 2nd World War. Haven't seen it since it first aired in the 70's and it still holds up. I was so impressed I think I'll buy myself the complete series on Amazon . Must see TV for any history buff.

At the Theater
I Am Legend B+: Will Smith has to carry this movie all by himself like Tom Hands in Castaway. Solid, I was hoping for great.

Kite Runner A-: beautiful, my mom considers the book one of the best things she has read in many years.

Alien V Predator II C: Alien and Predator mayhem, I expected little and was left satisfied.

Cloverfield B-: I nearly barfed, only watched the screen about 50% of the time.

U2 3D A: If this is the future of concert movies I'm very excited. My U2 passion has faded a bit lately but I walked out of this pumped and totally jazzed about hearing the old classics.

There will be Blood! A: Worth seeing just for D-D. Lewis amazing performance. Each character he plays in movies has a distinct way of speaking. Based on a novella by Upton Sinclair or Sinclair Lewis--I forget which.

Savages A-: Fantastic acting about the difficult subject on a parent dying. Hard to watch at moments but also amusing in spots.

Jumper C+: Special effects are cool, very disappointing when I got 1/3 into the movie to discover they just stole the plot from another cult sci-fi movie.

Bank Job B-: Plot not as flashy or unbelievable as a lot of heist movies are these days. Enjoyable but not amazing.

Iron Man: A+ Everything an action/comic movie should be.

Baby Momma: B+ Good writing with some funny cameos.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day: B- Amusing period comedy, nothing special but well executed.

Indiana Jones 4: A- just like the rest, fun if you don't take it too seriously

Son of Rambo: A very nice flick about two British kids trying to make their own Rambo-esque movie

Price Caspian: B Special effects good, pacing not so good.

Incredible Hulk: A

Kung Fu Panda: A

Wanted: B- I saw one head exploded by a bullet, seeing 20 didn't improve this movie.

OSS117: C+ French spoof on early Bond, not funny enough.

Animation Show 4: C meh

Gonzo: Life of Hunter S. Thompson B+

Hellboy A

Batman Man Dark Knight A+

Swing Vote C+ (free preview)

Get Smart C (I yawned during sections)

X-Files: B+ (still able to pull off scary and gross)

The Clone Wars B+

Tropic Thunder B

Towelhead: A+ Perhaps the best movie I've seen all year. Hard to watch at times.

Vicky, Christina, Barcelona: A- I enjoyed it.

Burn After Reading: B- out of the Cohen bros slapstick genre, my expectations were probably too high.

Appaloosa A- Well acted, Ed Harris and Vigo are a joy to watch, a bit slow in spots might not be as good on a small screen.

Religulous: B Some of the cuts were rather jarring.

Quantum of Solace: A- I have no idea why fuel cells would explode like that.

Changling: A- A touch long.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Watched on DVD:
I purchased the Coen Brothers box set.
Watched Raising Arizona
Blood Simple B+
Barton Fink: Very over-rated. C+
Miller's Crossing: Also over-rated B-

Interesting to watch their early movie (Blood Simple) and see a number of devices that were used more effectively in their latter movies. For example, the bumbling mistakes show up in Fargo where the guy forgets where he buried the money. Also the use of footsteps on a stairs and hallway show up in the hotel scene of No Country for Old Men. Frances McDormand is not great--she has clearly improved on a actress over the years.

Uhhhmmm, before you go out and buy a night light, you know that it was a movie based on a comic book character?

I may go see it when the sprouts get back in town.

They're back. We saw it. Can I borrow your night light? That is the best acting performance I've seen in awhile.

Should that movie be rated R? It was close. v2 is almost 13, but if I had taken, say, a 9 YO to that, I wouldn't be to thrilled. TONS of folks let their 9 YO's (and younger) see PG 13's. They may have been fooled with this one.

Solid A.

Saw it again at the $1(sic) theater. I take back pooking fun at delphigod. Best movie I've seen in several years.

A++++++++++++++++++

$3.75 total spend for three people to see a movie in a theater. A+++++++++++++++++++++

Casino Royale-->B+ Took me a couple of tries, but this is pretty**** good Bond. Daniel Craig is a total departure from prior Bond's, much darker, but not a bad move. I like Judi Dench as "M" also. It definitely lacks some of the self-deprecating wit of the prior Bond movies. Again, not a bad move imho.

Quantum of Solace - B

opening sequence and closing scene were disappointing. The middle is every good and Daniel Craig has completely recreated the role of James Bond. The women weren't extremely hot and the way they dispensed one of them was a nod to Goldfinger. This is a direct sequel to Casino Royale with the Vesper revenge storyline. There's a cool scene where Bond discovers his new favorite drink. There's a plane chase/crash actions scene that's excellent. If you are a fan, you'll like this one. It isn't as good as Casino Royale but its a solid transition into the next movie and worth the view. Again, Craig's Bond is terrific.

The Hunger-B/B- You have to get past the first 20 " kind of drugs were we taking that made this seem like good filmmaking" minutes, but then it turns into a pretty good horror flick. Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon nekkid A++, together A+++++ and doing lots of kissing A++++++++++.

Seriously, though, horror is not my favorite genre, but with all the vampire talk, I decided to check it out. OK, not great, not awful.

Very, very young Dan Hedaya in a supporting role and Willem Dafoe and John Pankow in very small bit parts.(!)

I might pick a nit and drop the "+" because it wasn't The Deer Hunter or Goodfellas, but agreed. Jeff Bridges is one of my favorite actors. Isn't this the first time he wasn't a hippie? Robert Downey Jr may be (have been) a troubled druggie, but gat-dayumm he can act.

The Human Stain--> B++ A bit of a mess of a movie. Not sure I can buy Anthony Hopkins as a black passing as a Jew and the psycho Viet Nam vet is a very tired cliche, but what a great cast and great acting. Anthony Hopkins, Gary Sinise, Nicole Kidman (very good and very hawt) and Ed Harris, to start with. The supporting actors were excellent as well. Great tension, sexual and psychological.

Solid movie, but a downer.

Transporter 3 : B-

solid action flick, better than the first one, a notch below the second one. Jason Statham is a legitimate action hero and a touch underated imo. It's loud, ridiculous, implausible, and good. The girl in this movie is some Russian actress freckled all over esp in the face and isn't conventionally beautiful. By the end of the movie you are ignoring her terrible acting and you have the hots for her. She grows on you. Turn your brain off and you'll enjoy this one.

Shine A Light--> If you're a fan--> A. Interesting set list and several songs that I've never seen in the 8 times I've seen them in concert.
No real new ground and it could have been directed by anyone, so kind of a waste of Scorcese except for the state of the art film job.

Champaign and Reefer w/Buddy motherfucking Guy as Mick called him--> A+ Say what you will, the Stones are a great blues band.

Christine Aguilera singing the "Live With Me" and belting out, "And when she strips, the chauffeur flips, the butler's eyes they cross!", w/gusto--> B for b r b
If you're not a fan, don't bother.

Kind of sloppy and over the top, but lots of good acting and great lines.
